What is OpenK12.org?

OpenK12.org is dedicated to discovering and sharing Open Educational Resources that can be used in the K-12 teaching and learning.

Why K-12?

There are many places to find Open Educational Resources (OER) for Higher Education, but far fewer when it comes to the K-12 scene. I taught Junior High and High School for many years, and I often felt like I was reinventing the same curriculum that thousands of educators had already created. Most educators are willing to share if you ask them, but most of these resources never make it online. OpenK12.org is an attempt to share quality open access K-12 eduacational resources.

An invitation.

The resources we collect here are meant to be shared. Copy them, change them to suit your needs, then share them again. If you would like to participate, feel free to sign up and contribute. By registering on OpenK12.org you will automatically be added as a contributor. You are also welcome to join the OpenK12.org forums and start conversations there.

Established in 2009

OpenK12.org was founded by Tom and Danielle Caswell. Danielle and Tom attended the Teaching with Technology Idea Exchange (ttix.org) in June of 2009. Danielle was interested in homeschooling and/or supplementing the existing school curriculum for her son. Tom suggested collecting K-12 materials and putting them somewhere that would make it easy for others to share as well. A few days later, OpenK12.org was born.
